Flag flap and media attendance – controversy or diversion?

I may just be getting more cynical as I get older, but it seems to me that the whole tempest in a teapot that is the flap over lowering the flag to half mast as well as the media attending the arrival of soldiers' bodies may be a ploy by the Tories to divert attention away from something else, the up coming budget for instance. What makes me think this is an article that was on the front page of the Calgary Herald yesterday. In this article, some Conservative MP's were stating their opposition to the government's policies regarding flags and soldiers. Now based on Steven Harper's actions with regard to what information flows from the government to the media, it is reasonable to conclude that the MP's in “opposition” to the idea are a plant. Either they're to give the government a way to change their policy and still save face ala “well our MP's didn't like the idea” or it's a “look at the wookie” diversion.

If it's to save face, then I suspect a change in the policy is forthcoming in the next couple of weeks. If it's to create a diversion then I wonder what's going to be in the budget that needs the media's attention diverted?
