Lazy, lazy day.

Well I'm in Halifax and I spent the day doing squat. Just in a do nothing mood. The weather was a little off which may have had something to do with it. It's been raining since I woke up this morning and it got downright nasty this afternoon as the remnants of tropical storm Beryl washed over Nova Scotia with lots of rain and wind. I went out twice, and then only to the local mall for food. It's alright though, I'm on vacation and sometimes down time is just what you need. Anyhow, an update to this point. The day before yesterday I left Montreal, but since there was a considerable lag between check out time at my hotel and the time the train left the station (about 6 hours) I had some time to kill. I checked my suitcase upon arrival at the station at about 11 am and then struck out into downtown Montreal.

I generally just walked around. I ended up wandering towards old Montreal where the architecture is magnificent. Lots of cathedrals and a really cool art-deco building.

(Aparently the World Trade Centre was moved to Montreal)

I visited a museum across from the hotel-de-ville that was in a building built for the first (French) governor of Quebec back in the 1600's. In fact it's been a museum for over 100 years. As museums go it was quite small, but very cool to see things so old.

I also wandered near the water front and visited the church of Notre-Dame de bon secours which was the sailor's church. Inside is the tomb of Ste Marguerite Bourgouys one of many Canadian saints. There is a small museum attached to the chapel which gives some history of the chapel and Ste Marguerite Bourgouys.

A walk back to the Gare Central and I then only had a couple of hours to kill. I had some food, read the paper then boarded my train to Halifax.

The trip to Halifax was uneventful and relaxing. The newer Renaissance cars are not quite as spacious as the older Budd cars, but comfortable enough. After a two day trip I arrived here in Halifax.

I checked into my hotel, had a celebratory supper (it was my birthday after all) and then sat down and did some cadet work (it follows you around...). I went out to purchase some nail clippers then after a soak in the hot tub I was off to sleep. Slept for about 11 hours then was lazy all day today.

Well it's late and I should be off to bed as I have to get up tomorrow to catch my train for the first leg of my trip home.
