Yet more Tory Patronage

The Harper Conservatives seem to be unable to help themselves, or at least their supporters, with yet more patronage appointments. It would appear that the new board of directors of the Toronto Island Airport just happen to all be Tory supporters. Naturally, the National Post, which printed the story, spent most of the article trying to spin things in favor of the Conservatives and discredit the NDP MP who made the discovery.

The point here is that, if you want to claim to be different than your predecessors, don't do the same things. It is true that much of Conservative public policy is much different (and in my opinion much worse) than the previous Liberal policy, but the Tories are acting like the Grits when it comes to helping out their friends. Harper seems to just love appointing his pals to government posts. This would be the opposite of the accountability that Harper claims to want in government. An accountable government would hold open competitions for such jobs and the ability to get the job wouldn't depend on the political party you support. Too bad Stephen Harper and his government don't believe in accountability.
