M44 – The Beehive open cluster.
Object # 3 Object Name:M44
Other Names:The Beehive Cluster, The Presasepe, NGC 2632
RA:08:39:57.20 Dec:19:40:21.00
Constellation:Cancer Season:Winter
Magnitude:3.1 Type:Open Cluster
Description:
At a dark site, M44 is relatively easy to find, however the constellation of Cancer is quite dim and is practically invisible to the unaided eye in the city. M44 itself is normally a naked eye object, but the glare of city lights hides it. Binoculars are needed to see M44 from the city. Though not as spectacular as seen from a dark site, M44 is still a nice open cluster in a set of binoculars or a telescope from a city. It is harder to find, but if you draw a line between Regulus and Castor and Pollux, it's about half way. A must see.
