Easy minimum 28 step – two hour process to install an astroimager driver on @Windows 8.1…
- Attach device and wait for Windows to not find driver.
- Tell Windows where to find the driver.
- Wait for Windows to complain the driver is unsigned
- Open sidebar and click on Change PC Settings
- Navigate through menus to find Advanced Startup
- When machine restarts select Troubleshoot
- Select Advanced Options
- Select Startup Settings
- Click Restart
- Scramble around for physical keyboard to connect to tablet
- Connect keyboard and press 7
- Attach device and wait for Windows to not find driver
- Tell Windows where driver is
- Windows installs driver.
- Device works!
- Install Windows update – Windows forgets about driver
- Attach device and wait for Windows to not find driver.
- Tell Windows where to find the driver.
- Wait for Windows to complain the driver is unsigned
- Open sidebar and click on Change PC Settings
- Navigate through menus to find Advanced Startup
- When machine restarts select Troubleshoot
- Select Advanced Options
- Select Startup Settings
- Click Restart
- Scramble around for physical keyboard to connect to tablet
- Connect keyboard and press 7
- Wait at least 2 hours for the tablet to reboot…
There’s no need for this insane process. I can’t fathom why the rocket scientists at Microsoft would force users through it. When Linux has an easier device driver installation, you know Windows has a problem.
