Sounds like a bit of 'valve drip' burn. (Basically, oil dripping through the valves while the vehicle is sitting)

Have the compression checked, if it's all "pretty good" (e.g. 110 - 125 range - I think factory on those engines is 130-135), you might get away with having the valves reground/reseated.

Otherwise, you're staring at rings - and therefore an overhaul of the motor.
