The slide into ignorance.

I think much of the computer jump happened when science was still
ascendant as well which helped the adoption of the technology. Further the
computer doesn't go against any major religion's beliefs in how the universe
was formed and how life arose so there is little to attack there (I suspect
because those who normally do the attacking don't realize what us science
types use the computers for).

As you say we are on a downward cycle. Hopefully not one so deep we enter
into another dark age where, as you say, we have to re-learn everything to
climb back out of the muck. Either way, the growing ignorance in society
frustrates me to no end.
