The new Dr. Who Those of you who knew me as a lad will recall that I was a fan of the BBC series Dr. Who. This was a British science fiction series that started back in the 1950\'s and ran until the 1990\'s. Well, it\'s back and it\'s playing on CBC on Tuesdays at 8 p.m.
Gomery and the next federal election. There\'s much talk in the press about the latest revelations from the Gomery commission\'s look into the sponsorship scandal. Much of this talk, especially in the Alberta press, is speculation when the Conservatives will pull the plug on the government. In Alberta, much of the press is wondering why the Tories haven\'t done so already.
On Religion and Reproduction. I've been following various discussions on a friend of mine's blog. Issues regarding religion, specifically the religious right vis-a-vis abortion and birth control. Not being one to stand idly by on an issue, I'd thought I'd throw my 2.14 cents worth into the discussion.
Tories begin to eat their young, again.Well it didn\'t take long for the conservative news pundits to speak out on the tack the federal Conservative party is taking. Reading through the Calgary Sun on Tuesday (we get both it and the Herald at work) the opinion columns were rife with the usually conservative wogs spewing out their unique brand of vitriol.
Tories head to centre.So the federal Tories moved ever so slightly towards the centre. Apparently someone has clued them in to that\'s where the votes are outside of Alberta. What will be interesting is if Harper can hold it all together till the next election.
The Tories to “smother” Alliance member. I was listening to the radio this morning as is my habit and the CBC had a story on the single Alberta Alliance member, Paul Hinman, of the legislature. Basically, the story was saying that the governing PC\'s find the Alliance member\'s presence an irritant.Now it\'s well known that I find not only the Alliance an irritant, but the PC\'s as well. What\'s different is the way I deal with people from these parties. Since I believe in democracy, I think that if the people have selected someone, then that\'s the way it shall be. That\'s not the way the PC\'s think apparently.
Can\'t Microsoft get anything right? I\'m a curler. I can hear the collective “big deal” from the lot of you, followed by what the heck does that have to do with the title of this post. Well as a curler, I belong to a club (the Oakridge Curling Club) and I host and maintain their website here at planet evil. Further, if you know me, you also know that my systems here run various versions of Linux and that includes the server that runs this blog as well as the curling website. So what does Microsoft have to do with all this?
Ward 10 by-election filled with parachute candidates. A quick survey of the candidates for the Ward 10 by-election shows that of the nine candidates running, only four actually live in the ward. Why is it that people outside of NE Calgary, who normally wouldn\'t be caught dead in “the hood” suddenly crawl out of the woodwork if they think they can get an easy ride into city hall?
I Can\'t Believe I Lost to this Guy.For those of you who don\'t know, I ran in the last provincial election in my riding of Calgary-Montrose for the NDP. The incumbent Tory won, naturally, despite the fact that he rarely shows up for work or answers his mail, living proof that the Conservatives can elect a shaved chimpanzee in Calgary.
On evolution and politics.Evolution is often mis characterized as the survival of the fittest. What it more accurately would be described as the survival of the one most able to adapt to changes in the environment. Ever since Charles Darwin formulated the theory behind evolution for the natural world, people have been using it to describe things in the human realm with various degrees of success. I\'m not above doing this and I\'m going to apply the theory to politics. |
