The Stupid - It Burns!

US PoliticsEven by the standard for stupid set up by conservatives in both the US and Canada, this takes the cake. An Arizona state senator (Republican - naturally) singlehandedly sets back her own agenda by pointing a loaded pistol at a reporter, in the state assembly building!

Harper's war on the media...

Canadian Politics...or Terry Milewsk learns that to Harper and his followers, the only balanced reporting is that which parrots the propaganda put out by the PMO. Now I don't think that Terry is that naive, but the exchange between him and former Tory PMO Chiefs of Staff Guy Giorno and Norman Spector is illuminating in that it shows the true feelings of Harper and his minions towards a free and democratic society.

You know a Conservative Government is out of line when...

Canadian Politics... the editorials in the Calgary Herald, a paper that is usually a mouthpiece for the Harper Conservatives is taking them to task for an action. In this case the Herald editorial writers, normally people who haven't met a union they couldn't slam, are calling out the Harper Tories for ordering the striking Air Canada and locked out Canada Post workers back to work only hours after the strikes happened.

Stelmach blames teachers for layoffs.

Alberta PoliticsLame duck Alberta premier Ed Stelmach, showing the typical Tory ability to lie their face off, decided yesterday to blame Alberta's teachers for their own impending layoffs. Stating that the Alberta Teachers' Association refused to take pay cuts, Stelmach then said that that was the reason for teacher layoffs. Stelmach is so off the mark on this one that his own education minister has contradicted him. So what does this all mean?

Is Harper driving us back into recession?

Canadian PoliticsWell the numbers for February are out and they show that the Canadian economy shrank in the month of February. Given that Harper has been crowing about how good the economy is because of his stewardship, this would be a sign that that stewardship isn't as good as Harper has been leading us to believe.

Further proof Harper and his followers don't believe in democracy.

Canadian PoliticsIt would seem that Rob Anders has surfaced and is upset that the opposition parties are trying to defeat Conservatives. It would seem from this that Anders doesn't under stand how democracy works, that indeed the opposition parties will try to ensure that the ruling party doesn't return to power. Of course Anders is to be forgiven about this attitude since his own party had pretty much forsaken democracy in his own nomination process that he probably believes that he is the chosen one.

Be careful what you ask for - part II

Canadian PoliticsSubtitled why a Harper majority would be bad for the Conservative party. Now we know that a Harper majority would be a disaster for Canada, but what isn't as well known is the damage to the Conservative brand that a Harper majority would do.

Be careful what you ask for...

Canadian Politics... you might get it. So the Grits have taken down the ad with the Harper "misquote". The problem for Harper and his Conservatives is that Harper has a big mouth and there's plenty of other quotes that the Liberals can use to beat Harper over the head with his disdain for public health care.
