It's all about perception. Polls like this and the actions of the Government of Alberta as well as political parties based in Alberta (Reform/Alliance) all give the impression that we're just a bunch of spoilt rich kids. Since Albertans vote for these parties (in Calgary a majority do) it would be safe to say that most Albertans feel this way to some extent.

To pull out of confederation is to feel the same way, just wanting to do something different to rectify the "alienation".
