I think more significant is the underlying implication of Harper's line - than someone who has been in the military is inherently "more patriotic" or "more Canadian" than someone who hasn't served in the military.

That insinuation is both false and deeply insulting on a variety of levels...coming from a weasel that hasn't spent a day in uniform himself, it smacks of hypocrisy in the extreme.
